Limitations
Understanding what Unveil can and cannot do, and how to interpret results appropriately.
Overview
Unveil is a powerful analysis tool, but it has inherent limitations. Understanding these limitations helps you use Unveil effectively and interpret results appropriately. No automated tool can provide perfect accuracy in assessing web product authenticity.
Heuristic Nature
Unveil uses heuristic signals—educated inferences based on observable patterns. This approach has several implications:
- Probabilistic, not deterministic: Results indicate likelihood, not certainty
- Pattern-based: New technologies or unusual architectures may not be recognized
- Surface-level: We analyze publicly observable signals, not internal implementations
- Point-in-time: Sites change; scan results reflect the state at scan time
Technical Limitations
Bot Detection & Blocking
Some sites employ aggressive bot detection that may prevent our scanner from accessing content normally. This can result in incomplete or skewed results.
Client-Side Rendering
Heavy client-side applications may not fully render within our scan timeout, potentially missing dynamically loaded content.
Authentication Walls
We cannot access content behind login screens. Our analysis is limited to publicly accessible portions of websites.
Geo-Restrictions
Some content may be geo-restricted. Our scanners operate from specific regions and may not see region-locked content.
False Positives & Negatives
False Positives
A high score doesn't guarantee a product is complete or functional:
- Well-built marketing sites can score high
- Sophisticated prototypes may appear production-ready
- Technical signals don't guarantee business viability
False Negatives
A low score doesn't necessarily mean a product is fake:
- Simple, functional products may lack detectable signals
- Unconventional tech stacks may not be recognized
- Bot blocking may prevent accurate analysis
Scope Limitations
Unveil explicitly does NOT:
- Verify business legitimacy or legal standing
- Assess product quality or user experience
- Evaluate business model viability
- Guarantee security beyond observable headers
- Access or test authenticated features
- Perform penetration testing or vulnerability assessment
- Validate marketing claims or testimonials
Recommendations
For best results, use Unveil as one data point among many:
- Run Unveil scans for initial technical assessment
- Request live demos for products you're seriously considering
- Check for public reviews and testimonials
- Verify company information through official channels
- Test products with free trials when available
- Consult with technical advisors for high-stakes decisions
